Avery believes her mother should dress her age, which is a battle that anyone familiar with Ramona’s decades-long Housewives career knows is doomed from the start. Ramona’s confidence is both her greatest strength and occasionally the reason a fashion intervention feels necessary.

Still, Avery is clearly strong-willed and opinionated, and Ramona seems proud of that. The irony of Ramona raising a daughter who is willing to tell her mother the truth is not lost on us.

We also learn that Ramona values having her own career and making her own money. Looking back, this early introduction is fascinating because her professional life feels very different from the later Housewives era of product launches, skincare lines, wines, and endless branded ventures. At this point, these women are not yet fully operating as reality television entrepreneurs.

Then we meet Mario.

Ah, early-season Mario.

Ramona describes meeting him when she was wearing a G-string to the gym, which feels like the most Ramona origin story possible. This is peak early Ramona: confident, glamorous, slightly outrageous, and completely convinced that the world is her stage.

Mario is introduced as the husband who lets Ramona be herself. For now.

We also get a glimpse into his family business, which feels worlds away from the Housewives economy that would eventually dominate the franchise. It is a reminder that these early seasons captured a different era — before every cast member had a product line waiting in the wings.

Of course, we also get Ramona’s beauty maintenance routine, which looks a little gooey and terrifying but appears to be effective.

Because, let’s be fair. Ramona is vile, we know this, but she looks good. And in New York, that matters.

Jill Zarin: The Queen of the Invitation List

Then comes Jill Zarin, and immediately we understand her world.

Jill explains that she runs with a “fahhhbulous” group of people and that Manhattan society is where she belongs. She is not just living in New York — she is participating in the social ecosystem.

She tells us she is from Long Island, which is somehow immediately obvious the second she starts speaking. The accent arrives before the introduction is even complete.

Jill proudly shows off her invitations, and honestly, this is peak Jill Zarin. She is wanted, included, and absolutely thriving in her social world.

Then we meet Bobby.

Oh, Bobby.

A true Housewives gentleman.

Bobby Zarin brought a calmness and kindness that balanced Jill’s larger-than-life personality. He supported her, grounded her, and remained one of the most beloved husbands in Housewives history.

We miss you, Bobby. Rest easy.

Jill introduces us to her daughter Allyson, who she clearly adores. We see a sweet family moment as Jill shows Bobby clothes she bought while shopping, and Bobby does what Bobby did best: patiently tries to keep up.

The Zarins live in a condo on the Upper East Side, and Jill explains that they could live anywhere — but New York is the center of the world.

And honestly?

For RHONY, that might be the entire mission statement.

Bethenny Frankel: Before the Empire

Then we meet Bethenny Frankel.

Before Skinnygirl. Before the business empire. Before becoming one of the most recognizable Housewives alumni.

This is Bethenny in the beginning.

She tells us she is career-oriented and not particularly successful when it comes to relationships — a statement that feels like a preview of many future chapters.

She shares some background about her family, though viewers know there is much more to that story waiting to be uncovered.

And then there is Cookie.

The true star of the household.

Cookie is adorable, and a serious Jurassic Snark observation must be made:

I miss Cookie more than I miss Bethenny.

There. It has been said.

Bethenny explains that she wants to marry Jason 1.0 and have one child. Reality, naturally, had a slightly different plan.

She eventually married Jason 2.0 and had one child, but the road there would become one of the most defining and complicated stories of her Housewives journey.

For now, though, we are meeting Bethenny before the empire — a woman with ambition, humor, and a lot left to prove.

Alex McCord & Simon van Kempen: The Status Experiment

And then we meet Alex McCord and Simon van Kempen.

Oh dear God.

Alex immediately lets us know that status is everything. From the very beginning, Alex and Simon want us to understand one thing: they are not social climbers. They are not trying to get into the room.

They are already there.

Whether or not anyone else agrees is a different conversation.

Alex explains that she and Simon are incredibly close, which sounds perfectly normal at first. However, Housewives viewers know that “close” is going to take on a whole new meaning as the seasons continue. They are not just close. They are extremely close.

Simon runs a hotel, and Alex works in visual merchandising. They present themselves as a sophisticated, cultured couple who belong among New York’s elite. The interesting thing about Alex and Simon is that they are constantly insisting they are not trying to prove anything — while also spending a lot of time proving exactly that.

Their children, Johan and Francois, have a French nanny so they can grow up bilingual. It is a very Alex and Simon detail: education, culture, refinement, and of course, a little bit of status sprinkled in.

Then we see their Brooklyn townhouse.

A home that will become a running joke for years to come.

But let’s be fair: this is a two-million-dollar property. Most people would happily accept that “embarrassing” townhouse. The Housewives world has a very unique way of making extremely expensive homes somehow seem inadequate.

Alex explains that she never wants to live in the suburbs, and honestly, a reality show following Alex and Simon on a quiet suburban cul-de-sac might be exactly the chaos we need. You just know there would be decorative pineapples everywhere.

And yes.

The upside-down kind.

Luann de Lesseps: Enter the Countess

And now, the Countess has arrived.

Luann de Lesseps introduces herself the only way Luann knows how: through the title.

Her husband’s lineage is not just background information — it is the main event. Luann wants everyone to know exactly who she married and exactly what that means.

She hit the jackpot, and she would like the room to acknowledge it.

The Count travels often.

For business.

Riiight.

We meet Luann’s children, and there is actually something very sweet about seeing them at this stage of their lives.

Then there is Rosie.

Instant appreciation for Rosie.

She clearly runs the household, and as the family prepares to leave their Manhattan townhouse for their Hamptons estate, it becomes obvious who is really keeping everything together.

The Hamptons: Where RHONY Truly Begins

Bethenny explains that New York society is incredibly insular. During the summer, everyone leaves Manhattan and heads east to the Hamptons.

And finally, we arrive.

This is what RHONY is supposed to be.

Show me the money!

Show me the ridiculous level of wealth that makes this franchise fascinating.

Jill Zarin & The Countess: A Perfect Social Match

We see Jill’s Hamptons home, and it is exactly what you would expect from Jill Zarin: impressive, glamorous, and designed for entertaining.

She heads off to meet Luann, and Jill cannot hide her excitement that she is friends with a Countess.

And honestly?

This is why Jill and Luann make perfect sense as friends.

Luann wants people to appreciate her title.

Jill absolutely loves that Luann has a title.

It is a beautiful social arrangement.

Tennis, Tennis, Tennis

Of course, Ramona and Jill immediately head to their respective tennis courts.

And all I can think is:

You are in the Hamptons.

Have a champagne.

There is no need for all of this movement and sweating.

Ramona, naturally, explains how important tennis is.

And also how important it is to have a hot tennis pro.

Honestly?

Valid.

Jill & Ally: The “Wellness” Visit

Jill and her daughter Allyson discuss sending Ally to a detox center.

Officially, the reason is her arthritis.

But Ally herself admits that part of the appeal is wanting to lose weight.

Jill presents it as a wellness experience, which technically is not untrue, but everyone understands there is more happening beneath the surface.

Silex: Above the Hamptons

And then we return to Alex and Simon.

Because of course we do.

Alex and Simon want to make one thing very clear: they do not go to the Hamptons.

And please do not misunderstand.

It is not because they cannot afford it.

Absolutely not.

The Hamptons are simply too much work, darling.

While the rest of Manhattan society packs up their cars, sits in traffic, and makes the annual pilgrimage east, Alex and Simon are heading somewhere much more fitting for their lifestyle:

St. Barth’s.

Naturally.

Culture is important. Sophistication is important. Status is important.

They remind us of this frequently.

Alex wants their son Francois to practice speaking French while they are traveling. Francois, however, has a very different priority.

He wants an apple.

In English.

And he is not budging.

They explain that they do not even bother with beaches in the United States because people wear too many clothes there.

Okay.

Ramona’s Pool Party: Avery’s Ongoing Embarrassment

Meanwhile, Ramona is hosting a pool party, and Avery is once again experiencing the unique challenge of being raised by Ramona Singer.

Avery is mortified by her mother’s behavior with a girlfriend, which feels like a very understandable reaction.

Honestly, Avery probably spends a large portion of her life being embarrassed by Ramona.

Silex Fashion Week: The Dress, The Opera, and The Budget Announcement

Naturally, we return to Alex and Simon for another glimpse into the Silex lifestyle.

This time, they are shopping for a dress for the opera’s opening night.

Because regular shopping would simply not be enough.

Simon explains that Alex has a model figure and that he loves dressing her. He tells us that he enjoys styling her, and the two of them make it very clear that they are each other’s personal stylists.

They never shop without each other.

Never. And it isn’t weird at all.

Simon wants us to know that this shopping trip was expensive.

Very expensive.

He makes sure to mention it more than once.

The number?

More than five figures, but less than six.

A very specific Housewives-era financial announcement.

The Countess Gets a Puppy

Over at Luann’s Hamptons estate, we meet the newest member of the family.

Aston.

Yes, after the car, of course.

The Countess has a puppy, and Aston is adorable.

He is just a baby, and watching Luann’s son Noel interact with him is genuinely sweet. And then there is Rosie.

Poor Rosie.

Everyone else sees a cute new puppy.

Rosie sees another responsibility.

She already knows exactly who will be handling the walks, the feeding, and the general chaos that comes with a new dog.

The real MVP of the household has been identified.

Jill, Bobby, and the Ultimate Housewives Luxury

Back at Jill’s home, Jill goes to Bobby because she needs a plane to get Ally to her treatment center.

Of course she does.

This is one of those early RHONY moments that feels almost surreal. It is extravagant, indulgent, and completely removed from most people’s everyday reality.

And yet, this is exactly what makes early Housewives so fascinating.

Bobby does not seem shocked. He does not question it. He simply understands that this is what Jill needs and that he will make it happen.

It is another reminder of why Bobby was such a beloved figure. Behind all of the wealth and luxury, there was a genuine sense of partnership between them.

The Birth of the RHONY Era

Looking back at this episode, it is fascinating to remember that this second installment in the Housewives franchise began with a much simpler concept: Manhattan moms.

But somewhere along the way, it became something much bigger.
