The wedding is getting closer, and Bethenny Frankel is discovering that planning a wedding while pregnant, running a business, and trying to maintain control over every single detail is not exactly a relaxing experience.
We’re now deep into wedding preparations, and Bethenny is becoming increasingly frustrated with Jason’s apparent lack of interest in the planning process. She wants help, opinions, decisions, and preferably someone who can read her mind. Jason, meanwhile, seems perfectly happy to let her handle things. A bold strategy for a man who is about to get married.
The final wedding dress fitting brings another crisis. Bethenny discovers that her dress is getting tight as her pregnancy progresses. Apparently, the baby has decided to become an active participant in the wedding wardrobe department. There’s only so much fabric engineering one can do when the guest of honor keeps growing.
Then there’s the bridal shower, hosted by none other than fellow Housewife Alex McCord. Bethenny gets together with her girlfriends to celebrate the impending wedding, and the event provides a welcome break from the endless planning. There’s plenty of food, fun, and the opportunity for Bethenny to enjoy being the bride rather than the project manager.
Her friends are excited, although Bethenny’s pregnancy wardrobe is becoming its own production. The shower dress is tight, and she eventually opts for a looser sequined outfit. Nothing says bridal celebration quite like becoming a human disco ball.
Meanwhile, Bethenny’s staff continues to absorb the fallout from the wedding chaos. Shawn, the wedding planner, is trying to keep everything organized while Bethenny’s expectations remain exceptionally high. Jason is busy with March Madness, which is not helping matters. Bethenny is getting increasingly irritated that her fiancé seems more interested in basketball than the event they’re both supposed to be planning.
Jason, for his part, is beginning to feel that the wedding is turning into a circus. He isn’t entirely wrong, but perhaps this is not the ideal time to point that out to the pregnant woman managing the circus.
There’s also an emotional undercurrent to all of this. Bethenny acknowledges that she won’t have members of her own family present for the wedding. Given her complicated childhood and family history, this is a painful reminder that the wedding she’s planning isn’t going to look like the traditional family celebration many people take for granted.
It’s one of the more vulnerable moments of the episode, and a reminder that beneath the jokes and the constant activity, this is a pretty significant milestone for Bethenny.
Jason does manage a romantic surprise, taking Bethenny to get their marriage license. The two make a quick stop for street food along the way, because apparently even a romantic wedding milestone needs a snack break.
The rehearsal brunch brings everyone together again, including Jason’s mother, and the wedding is now just one day away.
Bethenny is trying to keep her composure, Jason is trying to keep the circus under control, Shawn is probably reconsidering his career, and the dress is hopefully going to make it through the ceremony.
Tomorrow, they’re getting married.
And judging by the amount of preparation required just to get to this point, the actual wedding should be a relatively quiet affair. Probably.
