Bethenny Getting Married, Season 1, Episode 2–In In-Laws We Trust

Bethenny Frankel is getting married, having a baby, running a business, promoting books, developing a skincare line, and apparently trying to organize an entire wedding without losing her mind. We’re two episodes in, and the woman is already operating like a corporation with a pregnancy test.

The wedding is now officially moving into planning mode, which means Bethenny has a wedding planner to meet and approximately 900 decisions to make. The nuptials are getting closer, and Bethenny is discovering that having a wedding is a full-time job on top of the full-time jobs she already has.

Jason’s mother comes to town, and the two head out to shop for wedding dresses. It’s a chance for Bethenny to spend some time with her future mother-in-law, although dress shopping with someone else’s mother is not necessarily the same experience as shopping with your own. Bethenny is navigating family dynamics while also trying to find a dress that will accommodate a growing baby bump.

And speaking of growing, Skinnygirl is not exactly taking a maternity leave. Bethenny continues promoting her books while developing a skincare line. There is no shortage of business opportunities, and Bethenny seems determined to pursue all of them simultaneously. Somewhere, an assistant is quietly updating a spreadsheet and reconsidering every career choice that led to this moment.

Meanwhile, the wedding planning continues. Bethenny wants things organized and moving forward. Jason, as we’ve already established, has a somewhat different relationship with deadlines and wedding logistics. Their differing approaches are becoming a familiar feature of the show.

But the real household emergency involves Cookie.

Bethenny’s beloved dog has been behaving badly, and suddenly the wedding, the business, and the baby aren’t the only things requiring management. Cookie is having her own little behavioral crisis, and Bethenny is forced to confront the fact that even her household pets aren’t necessarily cooperating with the program.

Cookie may be small, but she has apparently decided that she is the one running this operation.

Between wedding dress shopping, the future in-laws, business development, and canine misbehavior, Bethenny is discovering that the road to marriage is not exactly a relaxing stroll down the aisle.

Jason’s family is getting involved, the wedding plans are taking shape, and Bethenny is attempting to keep all the moving parts from flying off the tracks.

Two episodes in, and we’re already seeing the central challenge of this relationship: Bethenny wants to manage every detail, while Jason seems perfectly content to let some things unfold naturally.

Unfortunately, the wedding is coming whether everyone is ready or not.

And Cookie would like to speak to management.
