• The Giudices, Gorgas, and Wakiles are all at Lake George, pretending they want to learn how to get along. They even have team-building coaches.

The coaches look like extremely WASPy people who have never encountered this level of North Jersey Italian energy in their lives. They are clearly overwhelmed by the family drama that has invaded their peaceful little castle.

    And things go downhill quickly.

Melissa calls Teresa poison. Joe Gorga calls her scum.

Even Kathy thinks this has gone too far.

Meanwhile, Joe Giudice is outside venting to Rosie. He tells her that one day, Joe Gorga is really going to piss him off. Joe Giudice once said that the only reason he didn’t kick Joe Gorga’s ass was because he had promised Nono Gorga that he wouldn’t.

    Frankly, I believe him.

Stunned by what is happening, Teresa rushes outside.

“Joe, he just called me scum. I wanna leave.”

Joe Giudice, who appears a little tipsy, heads right to the castle. He wants Joey Gorga to apologize, so naturally he heads inside to confront him.

Joe Gorga is ready for a fight. A panicked Richie tells him to back up. It’s good advice.

Almost as soon as Joe Giudice opens his mouth and tells him to apologize, Joe Gorga charges at him.

And this is one of my favorite Housewives moments ever.

Joe Giudice grabs Joe Gorga and flips him like it ain’t no thing.

And just like that, it is ON LIKE DONKEY KONG.

Melissa immediately jumps into the fight, biting and scratching, while Teresa runs to get security.

And because Melissa is Melissa, she also manages to stop long enough to retrieve Joe Gorga’s hat and cover his bald spot.

    Yes. His hat.

By now, everyone is covered in Joe Gorga’s black hair spray.

    It is literally everywhere.

The fight continues, with the Joes screaming threats at each other, and then we learn that Joe Gorga apparently bit Joe Giudice’s nuts.

    LMAO.

I mean, what even is happening here?

The WASP team-building coaches look absolutely terrified. They came to Lake George expecting to teach some Italian-American families how to communicate effectively, and instead they have accidentally wandered into a prehistoric Jersey territorial dispute.

And the black hairspray is still everywhere.

The jig is up, Joey Gorga.

You’re bald, and we all know it.

Melissa is furious with Teresa for allowing the fight to happen, which I don’t completely understand. Teresa literally ran to get security. What exactly was she supposed to do? Step between two enormous, furious Joes?

I’m not particularly interested in taking either Joe’s side here. They are both acting completely insane. But I don’t see how this is Teresa’s fault.

Joe Gorga tells Joe Giudice, “You made me be a bum like you.”

    Sure, Joe.

Maybe you’re both just a little nuts?

And let’s not forget the Christening From Hell. Joe Gorga started that one, too. Dude has one hell of a temper.

    Meanwhile, the WASPs remain traumatized.

And the black hairspray is everywhere.

Joe Giudice looks around and seems genuinely bemused by the fact that there is black shit all over him.

    Why, indeed?

Teresa really wants to leave. She is completely over this entire family vacation.

But now Teresa wants to punch Melissa in the face, and Melissa declares that they have reached rock bottom.

    You think?

    Don’t worry, Missy G.

    You will go lower.

Joe Gorga tells us he hates Joe Giudice so much that he wants to skin him.

    Oh, my.

    That’s aggressive.

We get a montage of Joe Giudice’s past misdeeds, and I have to admit, the man has quite an impressive rap sheet of Housewives offenses.

Melissa announces that she is DONE.

Meanwhile, Joe Giudice is telling Teresa that Joe Gorga started the fight by charging him, and again, I agree.

Now Rosie is blaming Teresa for the fight, while Kathy is primarily concerned that her brand-new nose might have been damaged.

    Priorities.

Again, I am not seeing Teresa’s fault here. Sue me, but I don’t.

Joe Gorga called her scum. Teresa wanted to leave. Joe Giudice went inside to tell Joe Gorga to apologize. Joe Gorga charged him. Teresa ran to get security.

I don’t know what I would have done differently, except maybe give up on my brother years ago.

Joe Giudice tells Teresa she is an idiot if she continues trying to reconcile with her family, and Teresa is worried about what her father will think.

Richie, meanwhile, doesn’t want to leave. He thinks he can talk to both Joes.

If Richie is going to be the voice of reason, we are all in trouble.

Richie heads over to the Giudices’ room to shame Teresa, and she is having absolutely none of it.

I wish Juicy Joe would karate chop him.

Teresa didn’t drag her husband into this. She told him what happened and said she wanted to go home. What happened after that was between the Joes.

    Period.

Little Joey Gorga is crying, and Melissa is comforting him.

I just can’t muster up the sympathy for a guy who just called his sister scum, charged her husband, and bit him in the nuts.

    Again, sue me.

Teresa wants to talk to her brother alone, but Melissa doesn’t want to leave. Even Rosie tells her to give them a minute alone, but Melissa refuses to budge.

Joe Gorga says he wants nothing to do with Teresa and cries some more.

The WASPs finally emerge from their nest and attempt to manage these dinosaurs.

They are in way over their heads.

    Literally.

They are speaking a completely different language.

Richie says that things always get worse before they get better. Maybe that’s true, but sometimes things get worse because it’s time to walk away.

Joe Giudice, meanwhile, is over it.

He wants to go have dinner.

I do enjoy how quickly he gets over things.

The Giudices decide to have dinner on their own while the rest of the crew remains in the dining room, listening to Richie be gross and Joe Gorga attempt to explain his hair spray.

    Lol.

The Giudices are in the bathtub, which I could have lived without seeing.

Joe says that if he feels good tomorrow, maybe he’ll take Joe Gorga fishing.

Again, I love this man’s ability to move on.

Even from someone biting his nuts.

The next day, Rosie is optimistic that things will improve, and Dr. V, a therapist, is on her way to work with the families.

Teresa calls Caroline to ask her to come help her family, and I think this may be one of the most staged things I have ever seen on this show.

    These women hate each other.

There is absolutely no way this call happens without producer intervention.

Dr. V arrives, and she is very Jersey.

    No WASP vibes here.

She is direct, gets right to the point, and Teresa immediately clues her in on the long and complicated history of the family disputes.

Melissa seems resistant to her almost immediately, and I get the feeling that she really just wants the relationship between these families to be over so she can live in peace.

Everyone gangs up on Teresa and blames her for the fight.

    Still not seeing it.

Melissa’s hatred for Teresa is very clear in this scene.

Dr. V speaks to everyone individually, and Joe Gorga tells her that his sister is the devil.

Dr. V asks him to talk to Teresa.

    Alone.

    No Melissa. No Joe Giudice.

And wouldn’t you know it? When you take away the spouses and let the siblings talk to each other on their own, things suddenly become much calmer.

    Joe Gorga still needs time.

    Fair enough.

    Oh, Christ.

    Caroline arrives.

    Why?

Again, this all feels incredibly staged.

Apparently Teresa called her at 6:45 in the morning, and Caroline just happened to be available, willing to travel hours away from home, and ready to help a woman she cannot stand.

Like I said, I am not really on Team Giudice or Team Gorga, and Lord knows this feud will develop for seasons to come. But in this case, I say Joe Gorga started it.

Melissa called Teresa poison. Joe Gorga called her scum. Teresa wanted to leave. Joe Giudice went inside to demand an apology, and Joe Gorga charged him.

I’m sorry, but I’m still not seeing how this is Teresa’s fault.

Joe Giudice certainly didn’t handle the situation well, but Teresa didn’t start the fight, and she didn’t encourage it. She ran to get security.

I’m not taking sides in the larger Giudice-Gorga war because, as we know, this thing is nowhere near over. But for this particular incident?

I’m giving this one to the Gorga fossil.

    Sorry, Melissa.

  • We have arrived at the Berkshires, where Dorinda is hosting, the house is decorated beautifully, and absolutely nobody has time to appreciate any of it because the Housewives have brought enough unresolved grudges to fill the entire fossil bed.

First up: Luann and Bethenny are fighting over who named Skinnygirl.

    Yes, really.

Luann points out that she was there when Bethenny introduced Skinnygirl on television, which seems like a pretty important piece of evidence in this particular archaeological dig. As far as I can tell, that’s about as far as Luann’s involvement goes. But Bethenny is not exactly in the mood for a historical discussion.

Luann tries to make normal chit-chat with Bethenny.

    Bethenny is not having it.

Instead, Bethenny moves one seat over so she can talk mad shit about Luann. Luann calls her on it, and Bethenny is off.

The other women say Bethenny is like a sniper. I think she is smart, successful, and kind of mean, but hey, that’s just me.

Then Luann says she and Bethenny have the same hair, and Bethenny gets big mad.

Apparently, we can discuss Skinnygirl, men, friendships, and every other Housewives grievance known to mankind, but suggesting two women have similar hair is where civilization collapses.

    Carole arrives.

    Yawn.

Bethenny goes off about how Luann steals men, like it’s any of her business.

Meanwhile, the house is super festive and fun, by the way. Who has time to notice that?

Because now Ramona is mad, and naturally, it’s about Tom.

According to Ramona, Luann stole him away from her.

Girl, you got off lucky. Move on.

Carole says she would have stayed home if she knew Luann was coming.

Here’s the thing, chick: you are on a show together.

Like Dorinda says, deal with it.

    Carole complains a lot.

    Jules is there. Remember her?

Bethenny is actually talking to Jules, but mostly so she can talk more shit about Luann. At this point, Luann is basically the guest of honor at her own roast.

Luann starts talking about the hair again, and Bethenny can’t take it.

She starts screaming about all the men Luann sleeps with, and it gets crude and gross. Bethenny is not exactly a virgin herself. None of these women are, and honestly, that’s part of the fun. They’re grown women. They date, they have sex, they talk about sex, and sometimes they make questionable choices involving men named Tom.

But Bethenny seems particularly fixated on Luann’s sex life.

Luann is genuinely shocked and wants to know what Bethenny’s issue with her is. Bethenny gives some kind of explanation, but mostly it seems like she is mad that Luann is getting laid on the regular.

    And Bethenny is shouting.

    It is shrill.

At this point, she doesn’t care if Luann is the biggest whore in Macy’s window. She just wishes Luann would admit it. I wish I were the biggest whore in Macy’s window. It sounds like fun. She flat out calls Luann a “slut,” and suddenly I feel like it’s fifth grade. Do people really get offended by this shit anymore?

Bethenny goes off about Luann’s influence on Sonja, again as if it’s any of her business.

Dorinda is starting to get big mad about all the discord in her beautiful Blue Stone Manor.

She might want to get used to it.

Luann calls Bethenny a piece of shit, and fair enough. Bethenny seems pleased with herself, but then says she is embarrassed. Okay.

Jules and Luann go outside for a cigarette because apparently that’s where you go when things have gotten completely out of control.

    Luann wants to vent.

Jules tells her that she just got off the phone with her dad, who may be dying.

Luann responds, “It was so ugly, what she just said to me.”

    Um.

Luann doesn’t care, though. She cuts Jules off again and again so she can talk about herself. It’s gross. Jules reminds her that they are there for Dorinda, which is probably the nicest way anyone could possibly say, “Read the room.”

Dorinda comes out, and Luann blames her for not intervening and letting Bethenny attack her.

    Dorinda has had it.

Meanwhile, Bethenny is still talking about her hair and finally realizes that it actually does look like Luann’s.

    Oh, well.

One less thing to be mad about.

Bethenny says she feels bad for ruining Dorinda’s event, but she’s also laughing and clearly very proud of herself. I don’t believe her for a second.

Dorinda goes to Bethenny to try to talk her down a little.

Suddenly, everyone except Luann is in Bethenny’s room talking about Luann.

Luann tells Ramona she’s going to leave. They go into the kitchen to talk trash, and somehow the conversation turns to Dorinda’s birthday cake.

    And then it happens.

    The Bezerkshires.

    A full Dorinda meltdown.

Dorinda overhears them talking about the cake and goes bananas.

Her mother made the cake, and she does not want to hear any criticism of it.

She is spitting, slurring, yelling, and delivering Dorinda at her absolute finest.

She thinks everyone is acting very poorly.

    She made it nice.

She thinks the women are being disgraceful.

    Of course they are, Dorinda.

She tells them that if they can’t behave, they can all go home.

    And suddenly everyone is quiet.

    And a little sorry.

    Mission accomplished.

Back on the Upper East Side, Sonja, who was left out of the Berkshires weekend after the Tipsy Girl fiasco, is getting vaginal rejuvenation.

It’s always nice to see Sonja.

But I am not sure we need to see THIS.

After the Dorinda explosion, the women decide to try to start over and exchange presents.

Jules brought everyone board games to play.

Carole says it’s very Asian of her.

Isn’t this the same woman who was just complaining about Luann being culturally tone deaf?

    Hypocrisy much?

    Bethenny, meanwhile, is still bitching.

She doesn’t want to spend time with people she doesn’t like.

She is on the wrong show.

Lady, you are very well compensated to spend time with people you don’t like. Suck it up.

And then we have another important development at Blue Stone Manor.

Ramona’s dog, Coco, is shitting everywhere.

Only Ramona’s dog would have manners like this. Honestly, it all seems fitting.

Bethenny says the funny thing is that she actually likes Luann.

    Wait, what?

    No, you don’t.

Carole is mad that Luann called her a pedophile over the Adam situation and then invited her to her holiday party.

Bitch, go to the party, collect your paycheck, and go home to bang your 28-year-old boyfriend.

    Quiet your bitching.

    Dorinda made it nice.

Carole says Luann is the only one making everyone feel uncomfortable.

This is approximately ten minutes after Bethenny was screaming “SLUT” in the formal dining room.

Carole is really full of it.

Ramona and Luann are at the table discussing Luann’s apology to Carole. They decide to double down on it, sending a text saying that the pedophile comment was over the top.

Neither of them can figure out how to spell “pedophile.”

It is a classic Housewives moment.

    I love it.

Carole is eavesdropping, because of course she is.

This whole thing is a mess, and yet I still want to be there.

I want to wear a Christmas onesie and drink martinis with Dorinda.

    I want it all.

    Except Bethenny shouting.

Why do the Berkshires always look so beautiful even with all these old dinosaurs screaming their heads off?

I don’t know the answer, but I am here for it.

  • Twenty years of The Real Housewives is quite a fossil record. We’ve had table-flipping, wig-shifting, wine-throwing, friendship-ending, marriage-ending, and reunion-ruining moments. We’ve watched women become reality television icons, and Bravo has decided that the best way to celebrate two decades of Housewives history is to throw seven of them together and send them around the world.

Honestly, what could possibly go wrong?

For this ultimate Housewives extravaganza, Bravo has assembled a pretty impressive collection of fossils: Teresa Giudice from New Jersey, Luann de Lesseps from New York, Gizelle Bryant from Potomac, Porsha Williams from Atlanta, Kyle Richards from Beverly Hills, Vicki Gunvalson from Orange County, and Lisa Barlow from Salt Lake City.

The show immediately gives us a flash-forward of what’s coming, teasing multiple destinations and several Housewives cameos. Because apparently seven Housewives from seven different franchises aren’t enough. We need reinforcements.

There’s also plenty of talk about what The Real Housewives has meant over the last 20 years. The franchise has gone from a reality television experiment to a full-blown cultural icon. And tonight, we’re not just watching Housewives history — we’re digging it up.

The First Fossil: Nene in Atlanta

The journey begins in Atlanta, where Porsha is packing and gets a visit from our first cameo: Nene Leakes.

And Nene looks …different, but good.

This is Nene’s first appearance since she bailed on the Season 12 Zoom reunion, which makes her return feel like a pretty big deal. I honestly think this might be the longest Nene has gone without appearing in the Housewives universe, although I reserve the right to fact-check myself later.

Either way, seeing Nene back on screen is significant.

Porsha explains that the women are going to be visiting each Housewife’s home city, so we’re apparently getting a Housewives history tour along with the usual drinking, arguing, and questionable decisions.

While Porsha packs, we get some of Nene’s greatest hits. Naturally, we get the iconic:

    “Bloop bloop.”

We also get flashes of the other women packing as everyone prepares for the trip. Their first destination is Orange County, and when each woman arrives, Bravo gives us montages of her most iconic Housewives moments.

It’s basically a greatest-hits album, except instead of music, it’s women screaming at each other in restaurants.

Luann Has Somehow Improved With Age

When Luann arrives, she looks fantastic.

The show gives us a side-by-side look at Luann from 20 years ago compared with Luann today, and I’m going to say something that may be controversial:

I think she looks better now.

Twenty years later, Luann is looking fantastic. Good for her.

    What’s the secret?

Yoga and sex do a body good.

I have no scientific evidence to support this theory, but I am willing to conduct further research.

Vicki Is Ready to… Remind Us We’re Going to Die

Then we get Vicki, and apparently she is ready to WHOOP IT UP!

The women will be visiting Balboa Bay and The Quiet Woman — which, as we all know, is never truly quiet.

    Vicki arrives with gifts.

And by gifts, I mean snore machines.

Everyone gets one so that when they’re bored, they can recreate Vicki’s iconic snoring.

Because nothing says 20th anniversary Housewives extravaganza quite like a group of women sitting around making fake Vicki snoring noises.

    But Vicki isn’t finished.

Everyone also gets a clipboard containing a survey about insurance.

This is not the Whoop It Up Vicki we need right now.

But it is a very Vicki moment.

Because Vicki has one thing she desperately wants her friends to understand: they are going to die.

Apparently the other women came on a luxury Housewives trip expecting champagne and fun, and Vicki came prepared to discuss their mortality and insurance needs.

    Welcome to Orange County.

    Glam, Yachts & Dinosaur Land

The women get their glam on, and I have to admit, it’s kind of fun seeing all seven Housewives from seven different franchises getting ready in one place. Everyone has their own style, and putting all of those different Housewives aesthetics together makes for a pretty entertaining visual.

Teresa says Orange County reminds her of Jersey.

Having been to both, I don’t get this.

Apparently, I’m not alone. None of the other women seem to understand the comparison either. I would love to know what exactly about Orange County is giving Teresa the Garden State, because I am currently not seeing it.

Their first stop is a yacht in Balboa Bay, and Lisa Barlow immediately gives me one of my favorite lines of the episode so far when she refers to the area as “Dinosaur Land.”

    Excuse me?

    Dinosaur Land?!

Now that hits close to home.

Lisa, you may not know it yet, but you have just wandered directly into Jurassic Snark territory.

And Bravo is apparently fully committed to the fossil theme because there are cardboard cutouts of each woman from her first season waiting for them.

It’s basically a Housewives fossil exhibit.

They look at the pictures and someone points out that Kyle looks the same.

    I laughed.

I mean, sure. Kyle looks exactly the same as she did 20 years ago. Let’s just go with that.

Interestingly, nobody has much to say about how different Vicki looks. The only real observation is that she used to have bangs.

Apparently the bangs are where we are drawing the line.

Then Vicki decides that Teresa is the one who has changed the most.

Teresa does not exactly look thrilled with this assessment.

    The Housewives Greatest Hits

Luann is already picking up on Vicki’s particular brand of commentary and calls her “Ramona-esque.”

    Honestly, I can see it.

Vicki then announces that the women will be dressing in an ’80s theme for the evening, because apparently we’re taking a little detour through every possible decade tonight.

The women start discussing their most iconic Housewives moments, and we get another round of flashbacks.

Vicki chooses her invasion of Michael’s dorm and her infamous keg stand. Kyle goes with her decision to bail on the Rinna and Kim fight in Amsterdam. Lisa Barlow chooses her legendary hot-mic rant about Meredith.

Then we revisit Porsha’s fight with Kenya at the reunion, and Gizelle brings up her fight with Karen Huger, which she believes helped put Potomac on the map.

Teresa, of course, has perhaps the most obvious answer of all:

    The table flip.

There really isn’t much debate there.

But Teresa’s discussion takes a more serious turn as she talks about some of the troubles she’s faced during her time on the show. She actually goes into some detail about Joe’s crimes, which gives the conversation a little more substance than the usual greatest-hits montage.

And then Vicki does what Vicki does best.

She barges in with an unsolicited lesson in finances.

    Teresa is not feeling Vicki.

    At all.

Luann chooses the Turks & Caicos trip as her most iconic moment, specifically the infamous incident when a naked man appeared in the house. Because if you’re going to measure your Housewives legacy, apparently naked men appearing unexpectedly in vacation homes are a perfectly reasonable unit of measurement.

The women then get into a little Housewives history debate. Gizelle asks Vicki whether she thinks New York took the shine away from Orange County.

Vicki, naturally, isn’t about to surrender the Orange County crown.

Luann and Vicki both argue that their franchises were instrumental in putting The Real Housewives on the map.

    And then… they dance.

I think this is supposed to be fun.

Instead, it’s just kind of silly and boring.

The flashbacks are entertaining because, let’s face it, these women have accumulated an impressive collection of Housewives history over the last two decades. But I’m starting to feel like we’re watching a greatest-hits package instead of an actual Ultimate Girls Trip.

I don’t need to be reminded that the table flip happened. I remember.

I want to see what these seven women are going to do together now.

Let’s get to The Quiet Woman and make some noise already.

    Vicki Is Already A Lot

While the women are getting ready for the evening, Luann and Gizelle have a little discussion about Vicki.

They both find her a little aggressive and are surprised that she’s been speaking negatively about Tamra.

I have to ask: Where have they been for the last 15 years?

Finally, the women put on their best ’80s looks and head to The Quiet Woman to play Bunco.

And Vicki’s outfit deserves a moment.

    She looks like Dee Snider.

I’m not entirely sure if that’s intentional, but I’m also not sure what else to call it.

To get the women to The Quiet Woman, Bravo sends a little family van to pick them up, which is a cute throwback to Vicki’s famous “little family van” explosion.

I actually like this callback. It’s fun, it’s relevant, and it connects the trip to Vicki’s Housewives history without requiring another ten-minute retrospective.

But I’m starting to feel like the show is leaning a little too heavily on the scrapbook.

Yes, we know these women have iconic moments.

The flashbacks are fun, but enough already.

Let’s get to The Quiet Woman and find out what happens when the women actually have to spend time together.

    Welcome to The Quiet Woman

We finally make it to The Quiet Woman, and apparently Bravo has decided that this is less of an actual Housewives event and more of a reunion special with snacks.

First up is Jeana Keough, who is there waiting for the women.

I honestly would not have recognized her without the caption.

Then Tamra rolls in on skates, which is fun, but naturally we immediately get more flashbacks.

    Sigh.

At this point, I feel like I have seen more clips from old Housewives seasons than I have seen actual interaction between the women on this trip.

Then I spot someone else and think, “Is that Jo?”

There wasn’t a caption that I caught, and honestly, I couldn’t even tell.

    It is Jo.

And she looks very, very different.

Heather Dubrow arrives next, and everyone immediately agrees that she is fancy.

Are there going to be any surprises on this show?

Because so far, Vicki’s outfit is the best part. She looks like Dee Snider.

And then Shannon Storms Beador arrives looking like Mrs. Roper and Brett Michaels had a baby.

I don’t know how else to describe it.

Luann takes one look at Vicki and announces that she looks like Phil Spector.

    I die.

At least someone is giving us something new.

    The Slade Memorial

Vicki gets on stage and starts talking about her divorce and Slade calling her “Miss Piggy.”

    And here we go again.

    Another famous Housewives moment.

    Another flashback.

Another reminder of something we already know.

The women agree that Slade is the pig, and I mean, they ain’t wrong.

Vicki explains that she wants this Bunco party to be a redo of the one where she confronted Slade.

As I recall, that was a pretty entertaining party. Maybe I’ll have to recap that one soon because it definitely deserves a rewatch.

Vicki has even created some sort of Slade/Gretchen altar situation, because apparently we’re now holding a memorial service for Housewives villains.

She blames Slade for one of her new faces.

Then Luann does what we have all been waiting for someone to do.

    She breaks Slade’s picture.

    Finally.

    Finally, Some New Drama

The women finally sit down to dinner, and Tamra raises a toast to Vicki getting her orange back for RHOC Season 20.

Tamra continues with an awkward toast, and then they get down to the important business of the evening: Bunco.

I need one of Vicki’s snoring machines.

Tamra starts shrieking, and I have to wonder: Is she always this loud, or is it just that she is waking me up?

Then Tamra brings out some men, and Luann immediately perks right up.

Gizelle asks Shannon and Tamra if they hate each other, and for the first time tonight, it feels like something might actually happen on this show.

Shannon is pretty defensive and vehement, but that’s Shannon.

    Then Tamra goes very low.

She tells Shannon that she has a husband and a home and that she isn’t the one who is struggling.

    Oof.

Shannon starts to walk away, calling Tamra delusional.

Tamra isn’t about to let her have the last word, though, and fires back with a comment about alcohol.

    And there it is.

    Finally.

    Actual, present-day Housewives drama.

After spending most of the evening digging through the fossil record, we may have finally uncovered something new.

The Tres Amigas Are Not Having a Reunion

    Shannon can’t and storms off.

Tamra, naturally, goes right back to the same old story about Shannon’s drinking, and honestly, it’s just gross at this point.

    We’ve heard it before.

    We know the story.

I’m not interested in watching another round of Tamra using Shannon’s drinking as her go-to weapon. If we’re going to have new drama on this trip, I’d like it to actually be new.

While all of this is happening, Gizelle pulls Vicki aside, and we overhear her telling Vicki that Tamra has been talking trash about her.

This should come as no surprise to anyone who has watched Housewives for more than five minutes.

Tamra immediately goes over to confront Vicki, and suddenly we’re back in the middle of another argument.

Vicki, meanwhile, wants the Tres Amigas back together.

Of course she does. Tamra seems much more interested in being mean.

Vicki calls Gizelle a pot stirrer.

And we know that’s a fact.

Gizelle has been stirring this pot since the moment she walked into the room.

Vicki is big mad at Gizelle, and just like that, the whole thing is over.

    And I am legitimately sleepy.

I was really looking forward to this show. The cast is fantastic, the concept should be fantastic, and there is so much potential here.

But so far, I’m watching a lot of people talk about things that happened years ago instead of watching them create something new together.

We don’t need another tour through the Housewives museum.

We came here for the new fossils.

    Hopefully this picks up soon.

  • Digging Up the Drama: The Christening That Unleashed the Housewives Beast — RHONJ Season 3, Episode 1

During the intro, we immediately notice two important fossils are missing from the dig site: Dina and Danielle are gone. The question becomes: what kind of Housewives ecosystem are we entering now? Of course, the episode wastes no time answering that question by opening with the infamous christening explosion before sending us back one week earlier.

We begin at Joe Giudice’s pizza shop, where Teresa attempts to explain the family’s bankruptcy situation. As we all know now, Teresa is only seeing a small piece of the picture. She is confidently moving forward, telling us she is “bringing home the bacon” with her cookbooks. At this point, Teresa is happy, successful, and convinced she is on top of the world.

The question hanging over the episode is obvious: how long is that going to last?

At Teresa’s book signing, Caroline arrives because, amazingly, this is still early enough in the season where everyone is friends. Awww. Meanwhile, Caroline is in Hoboken dealing with a major life change: her sons are moving out. For a woman who constantly reminds us how proud she is of her successful children, it’s fascinating how much she struggles when those children actually become successful adults and leave the nest.

Lauren is, of course, miserable. It’s her defining characteristic.

Jacqueline is still dealing with her daughter, Ashley, who is finding it hard to get up and go to work. Every day. Same, Girl. Same.

And then we have Melissa Gorga! Thank you, Jeezus!

She welcomes us into her beautiful home and immediately drops the family connection — her husband Joe is Teresa’s brother. Once upon a time, the siblings were extremely close. Now? Not so much. Apparently, nothing says family bonding quite like years of resentment and a Housewives camera crew.

Melissa explains that she and Teresa are competitive, setting up the rivalry that will become one of the major storylines of the franchise. We meet their three adorable kids, Antonio, Gino, and Joey, who are instantly charming and remind us that, underneath all the drama, these families really are trying to build normal lives.

Melissa proudly explains the values she was raised with: a woman should be a cook in the kitchen, a lady in the parlor, and a “whore in the bedroom.” It’s a very specific brand of old-school femininity, and Melissa is clearly embracing it as part of her identity.

Then comes the scene that introduces us to Jurassic Joey Gorga in his natural habitat.

While Melissa is bathing the kids, Joe decides this is the perfect opportunity to request his own bath. It is… a lot. Early RHONJ Joe Gorga is determined to introduce us to his ideas about masculinity, romance, and apparently whatever “Tarzan and his poison” means.

Watching this back, I had forgotten just how much the show leaned into making Joe the larger-than-life, old-school husband character. A true fossil from a very specific era of Housewives.

Did I mention their kids are cute? They really are. They are getting ready for the baby’s christening, which means it’s time to introduce another creature into the Housewives ecosystem.

Enter Kathy Wakile, Teresa’s cousin, who walks into the dinosaur nest and immediately tells us she and Melissa are as close as sisters. For now.

Kathy and the Gorgas discuss Teresa and Joe Giudice, claiming they are “worried” about Teresa. I’m going to need a bigger shovel because I’m not buying that fossil. Joe Gorga explains that he feels Teresa has created a new family with Jacqueline and Caroline. We’ll see how that works out for everyone involved.

Joe tells us he has “no family” because of Teresa. Meanwhile, Teresa apparently told Kathy, “Family sucks.” Lol. Wait for it,  Teresa. Just wait.

    Oh no.

    It’s Richie.

Richie immediately enters the scene with a personality that can only be described as… a lot. He starts talking about clams, and if you know, you know. Kathy tells us that with Richie, you either love him or you don’t. I already know exactly where I stand on that fence.

Kathy is introduced as a very different type of Housewives creature. Instead of the Mercedes, Range Rovers, and luxury lifestyle we’ve become accustomed to, she rides her bike through town to pick up groceries. She tells us she loves to cook and believes that what you put into your body matters.

Of course, she is married to Richie, and I will simply leave the obvious jokes sitting right there.

We meet their children, Victoria and Joseph. Oy vey. Another Joe has entered the fossil record. Because apparently New Jersey was legally required to have at least twelve Joes at all times. At least Joseph Walkile has a different last initial. That helps a bit.

Back at Caroline’s, her children are perfect and her dog is old. Is it wrong that I don’t care? They are having Sunday dinner. They make fun of Southern accents for a while. It isn’t cute. What can I say? I don’t like the Manzos and I would fast forward through them if I were not in the middle of an important archeological dig.

Teresa is getting ready for the christening, and naturally, the preparation is already chaotic. Joe Giudice is wandering around shirtless, avoiding the event like it’s a mandatory work meeting. His excuse? He has the runs.

Meanwhile, Teresa’s hair person is at Melissa’s house, which means Teresa is now running late. Fossil fractures are beginning.

Over at the Gorga house, Melissa is getting the baby dressed and thanking Jeezus while reminding us all how sacred and meaningful this christening is supposed to be. The show really wants us to understand that this is a holy family moment.

    Oh, we shall see.

Teresa finally gets her hair done while Joe finds yet another reason to avoid the Gorgas. He’s hanging out in the garage, doing anything possible to delay the inevitable. Eventually, he decides he’s skipping the church ceremony and will just meet everyone at the reception.

    Honestly? My kind of guy.

Meanwhile, Teresa’s father is dealing with heart problems, and both Teresa and Joe Gorga are genuinely concerned about him. It’s one of those moments where, underneath all the Housewives chaos, you see the real family relationships that make this franchise work.

Then we arrive at the church, where the entire family is gathered in their finest Jersey formalwear: satin, sequins, and enough sparkle to reflect sunlight from space.

The holy sacrament is about to begin.

The church goes well. Everyone is shiny and sparkly like a holiday and all of the kids are adorable. We see Teresa congratulate the Gorgas, but the cracks are already starting to show. Melissa is upset that Gia is not at the church because she had another event to attend. These people are so petty.

Thankfully for us, that makes for excellent television.

The reception is held at the massive Jersey institution known as The Manor, because apparently a simple family gathering was never an option. There are ice sculptures, elaborate decorations, and enough extravagance to make you wonder if this is a christening or a royal wedding.

    Thank you, Jeezus.

Of course, Melissa immediately lets us know that she throws better parties than Teresa. The competition has officially entered the fossil record.

Meanwhile, Joe Giudice is keeping his distance and making it very clear he is not interested in bonding with the Gorgas. He won’t even take a shot. At first, we wonder: is it the runs?

    No.

He just genuinely hates the Gorgas.

Kathy notices that Teresa seems cold and distant, and now we understand the real fracture running underneath this event. The tension isn’t just about the christening. It’s about Melissa and Kathy joining the show without Teresa’s approval.

Apparently, filming began the same day as the christening, and Teresa was holding off on signing her contract as a form of protest. So everyone arrives at this supposedly sacred family event already angry, defensive, and ready for battle.

    What could possibly go wrong?

Time for more Manzo family scenes. Yay.

Lauren’s boyfriend Vito is there, and all I can say is: run, Vito, run.

Back at the christening, Joe Gorga tells us he ignores Teresa.

    If only.

At the christening, we finally arrive at the moment the entire episode has been promising. And naturally, it begins with Joe Gorga pounding shots.

Again, what could possibly go wrong?

Joe Giudice and Teresa are dancing with the baby, which immediately irritates Melissa. She believes the whole thing is performative and only being done for appearances.

    And duh?

    It is a show.

Joe Gorga and his in-laws spend dinner taking shots at Joe Giudice, because apparently the best way to repair a broken family is to criticize each other over a meal. Totally normal reconciliation strategy.

    Right.

Teresa eventually walks over to say hello, and the entire fossil site collapses.

Joe Gorga immediately assumes she is doing it for the cameras. Again, the irony is almost too much. He tells her to walk away, and when Teresa questions him, Gia steps in to pull her mother back.

That moment is actually one of the saddest parts of the entire scene. Gia has clearly seen this kind of escalation before, and her instinct is immediately to try to manage the adults around her.

Then Joe Gorga crosses the line and calls Teresa garbage.

Joe Giudice is watching everything closely, and if I were Joey Gorga, I would probably be paying attention to that stare.

The tension explodes. Joe Gorga starts pounding on the table, voices rise, and suddenly the christening goes from family celebration to full Jersey extinction event. The cameras struggle to follow as people are pushing, throwing punches, and ending up on the floor.

The kids are crying. Melissa jumps into the chaos. People are everywhere.

    It is absolute madness.

    It is epic.

    It is Jersey.

And with that, the Giudice/Gorga family saga officially enters the fossil record with an asteroid-sized impact.
